Make your plans now to be here next year on April 16-17, 2011
We are working on the schedule of Festival events for Saturday and Sunday,
but, don't forget that stuff happens on Friday,
such as the Master Classes, Live Country Auction and music jamming on the Square.

What a wonderful weekend! The Festival opened Friday with the Master Classes and the Live Country Auction. Then, bluegrass jams, oldtime fiddle jams, workshops, and Michael Cleveland and his high-energy band, Flamekeeper on Saturday. We had perfect weather and the handmade crafts were marvelous. The John C. Campbell Folk School's craft demonstrations and morris dancers enthralled big crowds. The Sunday Gospel jam packed the tent as it does each year and was followed later in the day by Jesse McReynolds & The Virginia Boys and the day ended with the The Dixie Bee-Liners. On the Square we fiddled and picked ten hours each day. Y’all come back next year on April 16-17, 2011 for more of the same.

For more than two decades from the time he moved to Dahlonega in 1983 until his death in 2004, Nick Pender was a major force in the North Georgia bluegrass scene. He and his wife Glenda were co-founders, along with several downtown merchants, of the annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival. Nick and Glenda developed the entire music program for the event, now in its 14th year. The Pender family continues to support the festival with children and grandchildren taking part in the event in various ways and Glenda serving as president and music chair.
